Separation and Filtration: our expertise

Separation and filtration are part of our business. Separation is the separation of two or more elements (e.g. fuel and water). In other words, it is the process of purifying a substance from the other elements that make it up. Filtration belongs to the large family of "separation". Filtration is a technique for retaining particles from a heterogeneous mixture through a porous medium (e.g. air and dust). Let's discover together the different methods belonging to separation.

Media filtration

The media is the component that separates the main substance (e.g. oil) from its parasitic components. It will retain the unwanted elements and thus make the main component homogeneous.
At HIFI FILTER®, our filters are equipped with different types of media: synthetic (fibreglass, polyester, etc.), cellulose, metal, etc. for a wide range of activities.

Adsorption filtration

Adsorption (not to be confused with absorption) is a physical phenomenon where a surface attracts molecules and then traps them in its pores. This is achieved by using an adsorbent, such as activated carbon. Activated carbon, also known as "activated carbon" or "activated vegetable carbon", is obtained from carbonised wood or organic material. This carbonisation process makes the material porous. It then has the properties of an adsorbent.
At HIFI FILTER®, we market filters (air, cabin, liquid ...) using the adsorption phenomenon. Questions about this technology? Please contact us!

Separation by decantation

Decanting allows the separation of two immiscible substances (also called "heterogeneous"), i.e. substances that cannot mix (e.g. oil and water). This separation is based on the phenomenon of gravity. The element with the highest density will sink to the bottom of the filter, while the second substance with the lowest weight will rise. When the two elements are clearly distinguishable, they will flow out via different channels. Note that the E-Catalog HIFI FILTER® offers decanting filters among its fuel filters.

Centrifugal separation

Centrifugation is a method of separating elements using centrifugal force. This special technique is characterised by the use of a very fast rotating movement. The speed sends the heavier particles to the edges of the container in order to isolate and recover them. The purified main substance, e.g. air separated from the dust particles, can then be returned to the system to feed it.
This type of separation is used for our cyclonic air pre-filters, available as CPC [...], but also for our oil, water and fuel filters.

Ultraviolet (UV) sterilisation

UV sterilisation is used, for example, in water treatment. In this system, special UV lamps are installed at the point of entry of the water. These lamps emit UV light waves. What does this do? To disrupt the genetic code of the micro-organisms in the water and thus suppress their ability to reproduce. They become harmless because they can no longer infect the organisms they come into contact with. At HIFI FILTER®, we offer ultraviolet filtration for our water filters. Interested in this method?
