The air filter: a vital part of the engine
13.06.2023
The role of the air filter
An essential part of the engine, the air filter removes dust and other impurities from the air before they reach the vehicle's intake system. In other words, it maintains good air quality, which is essential for fuel combustion. By blocking these contaminants, it also protects the rings, pistons, liners and turbo from premature wear and extends the life of your engine.
What are the different types of air filters?
The dry air filter
“⚠️Depending on the age of your vehicle, the housing of a cartridge filter will be different. Axial sealing cartridge housings are frequently installed on older vehicles. On newer vehicles, radial sealing air filter housings are mainly used.“

When should I replace my air filter?
An air filter can only guarantee optimal protection for your vehicle if the maintenance interval is respected.
When replacing an air filter, rely on the manufacturer's recommendations or on the clogging indicator (mechanical or electrical) if there is one. According to the manufacturers' recommendations, change your filter every year. On a mechanical indicator, if its piston turns red, replace your filter. If the indicator is electrical, change your filter when an orange light appears on your dashboard indicating a problem with the air filter.
For oil-bath filters, the oil should be changed, cleaned and replenished ideally every 50 hours.

In a very dusty environment, your air filters will become saturated more quickly and need to be replaced more often. But how do you know when a filter is dirty? If the filter is clogged or worn out, the quantity and quality of the air delivered will be reduced. As a result, the engine will not be supplied with enough air and combustion will be impaired. If this happens, there are several symptoms that can alert you:
In other words, lack of maintenance leads to expensive and sometimes irreparable damage. It is therefore essential to keep your air filter in good working order to ensure the safety of your engine.
- ✅ Excessive fuel consumption
- ✅ Reduced engine performance
- ✅ Black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe
- ✅ The clogging indicator indicates a problem with the air filter

“⚠️ Blowing or tapping your air filter is not recommended. Cleaning your filter yourself to remove dirt or particles will result in a loss of efficiency and may damage the filter.“
Washable high performance filters
- INCREASED POWER: With a cotton media, this range differs from standard cellulose filters. Why? Because this material allows a greater flow of air to pass through, thus increasing the engine's power and torque.
- HIGH PROTECTION: Although the incoming air flow is substantial, this high-performance model maintains excellent efficiency. Four layers of oiled cotton fiber protects your vehicles engine system.
- LESS WASTE: Unlike standard disposable filters, the H-AIR FILTER® line is washable, reusable and lasts about as long as your vehicle. Generally, cleaning is performed after 7,000 to 10,000 km, or every 6 months. However, this maintenance interval varies depending on your environment and its dust concentration. For more details on the maintenance of these filters, feel free to read the complete description, available in their original packaging.
